Deb brought some nice things to the studio...

                                          Spirit of Life Boutique

Debra Taylor’s Spirit of Life Boutique is a beautiful lingerie shop that specialises in taking care of ladies who have been through breast surgery. Debra is a highly respected breast-form fitter and is in the top 10 globally in terms of her experience and skill. Here she’s in conversation with Julie Gallagher about swimsuits:

Julie You have a wonderful selection of swimsuits, Deb, and they’re very lovely.

Debra Yes, they are Julie. They’re specially made with pockets in them. We have swim-forms that go inside the pocket but still give support on the other side for the breast. What makes these unique (apart from the pockets) is the fact that they come higher in the chest wall so that it covers any scar area and it comes quite high underneath the arm. Quite often you don’t realise that ladies have nodes removed and can end up with a bit of a hollow so these swimsuits actually come a lot higher under the arm to cover that area. They’re very fashionable, come in various colours and range from size 8 (in B,C,D and E cups) to a size 26D.. so nobody misses out. You can just walk in and leave with the stock. These look just like normal swimsuits and really are  lovely.

Julie  They are. There’s one with the hibiscus that’s particularly beautiful.

Debra  It is isn’t it. I have quite a lot of young ladies come in who have had both breasts removed and they’re entitled to wear fashion stuff as well. It also makes a huge difference in their lives knowing that they can still wear pretty, fashionable things. Once again they’re pocketed and are a perfect fit on. They look just like a normal one. The other thing I have are tankinis. You can buy these separately. The tankini top flares at the bottom so, if you tend to be a little bit small up the top, it’s not clinging which is great. It’s sold as separates because sometimes girls like to wear shorts with them instead of wearing an actual bottom but we do have a bottom that you can buy as a separate. It’s actually a bikini, but converts into a full brief so those ladies who don’t like it brief can wear a wasted one out of the same bottom.

Julie It looks really comfortable too. What sizes do they come in?

Debra These are available up to Size 26 which is fantastic. Many ladies like to wear their shorts with them and they can feel extremely comfortable with the flared top. We also have tankinis that are in sets and come in beautiful colours like gorgeous hot pink, navy and aquas make  a huge difference.  We also have chlorine resistant ones. They’re $69.95 and are ideal for ladies who might be doing acqua aerobics a couple of times a week and we know only too well that the chlorine can eat into the colour.

These ones last a long time and also go to size 26, which is brilliant. And some ladies go to hydrotherapy and the water’s always hotter, so the chlorine’s a lot stronger and it eats into the fashionable ones. So it’s probably a good idea to keep your fashionable ones for the pool or the beach and wear your $69.95 one to aqua aerobic and hydrotherapy.

We carry all the swim forms in stock and they are sometimes covered by private health insurance. Medibank Private, for instance, pays for them as does NIB and some of the others. When you come in and try on your swimsuits, if you want the swim form I can provide you with the code so you can claim it.  That’s a big saving and they last a lot longer than your breast prostheses that the government pays for.

We have swimwear available 12 months of the year because some girls go on cruises or go overseas where the seasons are different.

Julie There are so many options. Thanks for that Deb and we’ll chat agin soon. In the meantime you’re always welcome to visit Debra’s Spirit of Life Boutique. She’s one of the most liked and respected people in the field.
